1 - YEMEN

Houthi terrorists in Yemen have escalated their attacks on Red Sea oil tankers. The Panama-flagged Blue Lagoon I was hit by two missiles, while the Saudi-flagged Amjad was struck by a drone. These assaults disrupt around $1 trillion in annual shipping and threaten the Red Sea region with massive oil spills as evidenced by the currently burning tanker Sounion, carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil.

The Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist group, in power in Yemen since 2015, have targeted over 80 vessels since October 2023. They claim to focus on Israel, US, and UK-linked ships in response to the Gaza conflict, though in reality they seem satisfied with attacking any peaceful shipping at all, regardless of nationality. Their terror attacks have prompted international military intervention to safeguard maritime traffic.

Yemen faces compounding crises. Recent floods in the Al-Mahwit province killed 33, destroyed 28 homes, and left 38 missing. This monsoon season has affected over 33,000 families nationwide. The natural disasters exacerbate Yemen's humanitarian crisis, with millions of people displaced or in need of aid amidst the ongoing civil war.

2 - SUDAN

An airstrike on the city of Mellit, in North Darfur, killed at least 10 people and wounded at least 40 others. Mellit is currently occupied by the Rapid Support Forces, who arrested more than 30 people after the airstrikes, accusing them of giving coordinates for the strikes to the Sudanese army. The attack comes as reports grow about RSF plans to attack El Fasher.

The Sudanese army also conducted airstrikes on the city of Zalingei a day earlier, killing 4. Most of the main cities in the Darfur region are under RSF control, and the Sudanese army conducts regular air strikes against them, using their advantage of air power.
