  1. Tension in Israel as Iran threatens retaliation

  2. Sudan government rejects RSF ceasefire

1 - ISRAEL

As Iran continues to threaten retaliatory action against Israel - after terrorist leader Haniyeh was recently assassinated on Iranian soil - European countries are asking Iran not to escalate things.

In a recent statement, the UK, France, and Germany requested that Iran avoid retaliation, as it would likely escalate to an all-out state of war between Israel and Iran.

Iran has called the request “excessive,” showing that international statements are unlikely to have any effect on their plans for terror against Israel. The US expects Iran or its proxies (such as Hezbollah in Lebanon) to retaliate in some form, and continues to increase military presence in the Middle East.

The United Nations continue to urge that Israel accept a ceasefire agreement and halt operations against terrorist group Hamas in Gaza. Russia continues to show support for the Gazan side.

2 - SUDAN

Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burha rejected a ceasefire until the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) withdraw from all occupied cities, just hours before U.S. brokered peace talks were set to begin in Geneva.

Despite the Sudanese Army’s refusal to participate, U.S. Special Envoy Tom Perriello confirmed that the RSF have joined delegations from the African Union, the UN, and Egypt in Switzerland to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Sudan that has already displaced millions.
