TECH SPOTLIGHT: THE SLAM-ER MISSILE
Source: Wikipedia
The AGM-84H/K SLAM-ER is a highly advanced air-launched cruise missile developed by Boeing for the US. The SLAM-ER can strike both land and sea targets with impressive accuracy.
The SLAM-ER is the most accurate of all US Navy missiles, and can be remotely controlled and redirected after launch. It can be launched from various Navy fighter planes.
What it’s used for
The SLAM-ER is used for attacking fortified ground targets or moving maritime targets. Its long range and precision allow it to strike from a safe distance without pilots needing to enter enemy airspace.
2 - HAITI
1 thing to know
A Spirit Airlines flight was struck by gunfire while trying to land in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
The context
A Spirit Airlines flight carrying 48 people had to be diverted to the Dominican Republic after it was struck by gunfire while attempting to land in the capital of Haiti, Port-Au-Prince. The airport was closed after the attack, and all other inbound flights were cancelled. Images from the shooting show bullet holes on the interior and exterior of the plane, and a flight attendant also sustained minor injuries.
More from the region
The Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Canille, was fired after a decree was signed to replace him with Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as the country continues to be overtaken by violent gangs. He served as interim Prime Minister since April, for only six months. Due to the ongoing turmoil, the country has not held democratic elections for years, with the outgoing Prime Minister having been appointed by a transitional presidential council. The same council is responsible for his ouster, having recently been at odds with him, as well as several members being accused of corruption.
